Well...we finally made it to Australia after a nice long flight, and within the first ten minutes I blew the power cord. As most of you know I was hoping to write about our adventures on a daily basis but that was delayed while I awaited my new cord ordered from an Australian computer company.
On the first day we hit the three main beaches and did some hunting for a didgeridoo. No this is not an animal or fish, but a traditional instrument played y the aboriginals. After a successful hunt, it was time to call it a day and rest-up for a busy week.
Our second day was spent exploring Sydney and Taronga Zoo. Too call this place a zoo would be an understatement. I have never seen a zoo like this in my life. Tons of opportunities to interact with the animals and learn about their environment.
Our third day was spent exploring the botanical gardens looking for the wolf bat. This is a bat that flies during the day or night and has a four foot wingspan. They are freaky to watch especially when you find 45 of them hanging above your head!!! We moved cautiously out of the park after seeing all of them. We then headed for Darling Harbour to watch the new Batman movie on the world's largest screen. If you remember sitting really close to the TV when you were a kid and your parents telling you yo back-up or you will hurt your eyes, thats what the movie was like. It was really cool though as we watched the movie on a screen that was over 80 feet tall.
Our fourth day was spent looking at aboriginal art and exploring the remainder of the city. This included stops at St. Mary's church, Hyde Park, and the Queen Victoria building. Nothing too busy but a full days worth.
The last two days have been spent exploring the Melbourne area.
Well, it's time for bed and we're still fighting the jet lag. As always, the photos for this trip can be found on the right hand side of the page.
And below is he video that has alway inspired me to visit Australia.
